William C. "Bill" Wilson, Sr.

William C. “Bill” Wilson, Sr., of Honey Brook, PA passed away on January 11, 2021, at Tower Health, Reading, PA. He was the loving husband of D. Louise Wilson (nee Kessler), with whom he shared 60 years of beautiful marriage.

Born in Coatsville, PA on August 15, 1940, Bill was the son of the late Charles H. Wilson and Katherine Wilson (nee Batting).

He was a 1958 graduate of Twin Valley High School where he was an outstanding athlete, playing soccer, basketball, baseball, and running track. During his senior year of high school, Bill was scouted while playing baseball for the Shillington Legion, and later played in the Minor Leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

Later in life, Bill was a meat department manager at the former A&P Market, later known as SuperFresh, in Downingtown for 41 years. He was an active member of the Honey Brook Lions Club and the Honey Brook Fire Company, and was recently honored with a 50-year Service Award for his journey in Freemasonry. Among his many interests, Bill truly enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, playing golf with friends, and following the Phillies and Eagles. He enjoyed birdwatching on the back patio, often sharing his observations of the cardinals and bluejays with his loving daughter Shari. Bill also had a knack for being able to spark up friendly and fun conversations with everyone he met, as his love for meeting new people and getting to know others was an expression of his warm and caring heart. He made it a priority to maintain friendships and correspondence with friends and loved ones. His jovial nature and infectious laugh made Bill such a cherished member of the Honey Brook community.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Louise. He is also survived by Michael Wilson of Downingtown, and his daughter, Shari Alise Wilson (Jason Shestok) of Austin, TX. Affectionately called “Opa”, he is also survived by his three grandchildren, Steven Wilson, Kevin (Grace) Wilson, Cindy Bailey (Jake Keesey), and four great-grandchildren Hunter, Savana, Willow, and Nora.

Bill was preceded in death by his son, William C. Wilson, Jr., but is survived by his daughter-in-law Silvia Wilson, who resides in Honey Brook.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30th, at 2pm at the Honey Brook Methodist Cemetery (360 James Street). Pastor Michael Ware will be officiating, and John Grecia will be providing the music. All friends and family are welcome to attend. The family respectfully asks all attendees to wear a mask and maintain a safe space between one another. A second memorial service will be held at a later date when we can all safely gather and continue to celebrate Bill's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bill to Robeson Lutheran Church, Elverson (www.robesonlutheranchurch.org) or NAMI (www.namichestercounty.org).

Add My Condolences

Dear Louise and Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I have valued Bill's friendship for almost 80 years which started when we were playing baseball for the Honey Brook Peanuts Baseball Team in the old Chester County Midget League, the HB American Legion Baseball Team and the soccer, basketball and baseball teams for Honey Brook High School. I will miss the weekly telephone calls to/from Bill and the getting together with the "Boys from the Brook" that he would organize when I traveled to WCU for annual meetings. He was a wonderful friend and an outstanding person in every respect. Pat also sends her condolences. Don "Duck" Leisey
