James H. McGinnis, Sr., 90 years of Elverson, died on Friday, December 12, 2025, at his home, while under the care of hospice and his loving family.
He was born on Wednesday, November 27, 1935, in Bryn Mawr, Pa. James was the son of the late Robert K. and Mary Ellen (Callaghan) McGinnis. He was the husband of Barbara E. (Unruh) McGinnis, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage.
James was a maintenance supervisor at Pepperidge Farm in Downingtown for 30 years. He also was a self-employed excavator for several years. He spent many years as a member of the Loag’s Corner Men’s Fastpitch Softball team and then coached the women’s team. He enjoyed hunting bear and deer at his mountain cabin where he eventually spent most of his summers. While there, he loved gardening, feeding the deer, and playing around with his small backhoe. But, he mostly liked the quiet evenings sitting on the porch with his wife. Even though he loved his cabin, when it got cold, he headed for Florida where he and his wife spent the winters. There, he played pool with a group of friends, went swimming often, and rode his golf cart throughout the park. In his later years, he loved putting puzzles together, especially when his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids would visit and help.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bob, and sisters, Francis and Rose.
James is survived by his son, James(Kelly), daughters, Mary Ellen Lammey(Randy), Barbara Riggins(Jerry), Donna Zink, Rosemary Yocom(Arty), 12 grandkids, and 19 great grandkids.
A private service and internment will be at the convenience of the family.
