Ner E. "Sonny" Fries

Ner E. (Sonny) Fries, 84 of Elverson, passed away at his home, on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Nancy McGallicher his partner of 43 years and Kevin her son were by his side as he peacefully went home.

Sonny was born January 9, 1941, at his home in Elverson. He was the son of Harry and Margretta Fries. He was the youngest of 3 children. He was a 1958 graduate of Twin Valley High School. Sonny was a hard worker his entire life and was a jack of many trades. He had his own business, Sonny’s Carpet Service.

He is proceeded in death by his son Greg, the great joy of his life, who he loved to fish with and cheer for the Washington Redskins. He is also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Frank (Shirley) and Betsy (Jim).

Along with Nancy and Kevin, Sonny is survived by a daughter Teresa Riegner (Don), two grandchildren Phillip Allison (Lindsey) and Sharon Rose Allison (Tom) and 2 great grandchildren Louise Allison and George Henry Rogers, all of Oregon.

He is also survived by 2 nieces Kim (Mark) and Keli Witwer and 2 nephews Duke (Tami) and Don Fries.

Sonny was known for his joking around; he was quite the joker and would always leave you laughing with his antics. He had a love of vintage cars and car races. He owned a few vintage cars over the years. He and Nancy enjoyed vacationing at Keuka Lake in upstate New York.

Sonny played softball in the 70s for many years in the Morgantown men’s league. He had the best knuckle ball in the league and pitched many a shutout and some no hitters. If you asked around town, some of the old-timers will remember him well and can tell you a tale or two about Fries’ pitching!

In his final days he was able to speak gratefully and lovingly to Nancy and Kevin for all the love and care they have given him the past year.

His family was waiting at heaven’s gates and now dad is dancing with the angels.
