Ruthann Carter Combs, 86 years of Glenmoore, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at St. Martha Center in Downingtown, Pa following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Sunday, October 17, 1937 in Boothwyn, Pa. Ruthann was the daughter of the late John L. Carter, Sr. and Sarah Keeth Carter. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Joe Combs, who passed on January 24, 2022.
Ruthann grew up on a farm in Boothwyn, PA where they farmed the land and boarded horses for Brandywine Raceway. She met her husband Joe and made a home in Claymont, Delaware. Joe and Ruthann would work day and night to provide for their family. In 1975 they moved to Glenmoore, PA to be closer to Joe’s work and to enjoy the outdoors as Joe loved so much. Ruthann was a devoted mother to 5 children and was an incredible cook and meal planner who kept her family well fed. Her passion was cleaning and always kept things simple and spotless. She was known as Sweet Ruthie to friends that she was a second mom, nanny and cleaning lady for. She will be remembered for the kindness and genuine care she had for everyone in her life. She was a faithful soul to the Lord going to church every Sunday with her children.
Ruthann is survived by two sons, Mark (Julie) Combs of Elverson; Bob (Kim) Combs of Narvon, three daughters, Debbie (Mike) Bird of Narvon, Judy (Jerry) Ink of Terre Hill, and Suzie Jensen of Honey Brook and a brother, William Carter of Chadds Ford. She was preceded in death by her brother, John “Jack” Carter of DE. She was Mom-mom to nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday March 9, 2024 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1040 Chestnut Tree Road, Honey Brook, Pa., 19344. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m.; The Service at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Kim Guiser officiating and interment will be private at Elam UMC Cemetery in Glenn Mills,Pa.
