William D. “Bill” Baldwin, 90 yrs, of Honey Brook, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 at his home.
Bill was born on May 8, 1924 in Salisbury Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. He was the son of the late Clement and Anna (Davis) Baldwin. Bill was the husband of the late Mabel W. (White) Baldwin, who died on Nov. 17, 2009.
Bill was a graduate of Scott High School in Coatesville. He was a retired supervisor, working for over 35 years at Sperry-New Holland. Bill proudly served his country during WW II in the US Army Air Corp. He was stationed in England with the 8th Bombing Group, maintaining B17 aircraft for combat missions.
Family and friends will remember Bill as “Mr. Honey Brook” for many of the following associations to his beloved community. He was the former mayor, serving 16 years and as a councilman for 6 years, and as a board member of the Honey Brook Water Authority. Bill held memberships with, American Legion Wassaman Post # 422, F. & A. M. Howell Lodge #405, and the Honey Brook United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Honey Brook Fire Company; where he served as a fireman, with the fire police, and chairman of the ambulance. Bill was part of the first class of EMT certifications in Chester County. He was also a lifetime member of the Honey Brook Lions Club; he served as past president and received the Melvin Jones award for outstanding service to both the club and the Honey Brook community.
Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Baldwin, 3 brothers, Clement E., Robert I. and Ned A. Baldwin and a sister, Edith M. Baldwin.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Judith E. and her husband George R. Good of West Brandywine & Audrey J. and her husband Glenn Smoker of New Holland, 2 brothers, Alfred C. Baldwin of Coatesville and Barry J. Baldwin of Gap, 2 sisters, Margaret A. Plank of Lancaster and Jo Arlene Baldwin of Coatesville. There are also 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11 AM at The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, Pa. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Honey Brook Presbyterian Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM and a Masonic Service will follow at 10:45AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
